“We tolerate no one in our ranks who attacks the ideas of Christianity. Our movement is Christian.” Adolph Hitler 1928
True to the propaganda the far right throws out there, Vance was in Rome to show his support for Christian ideology But Vance was there to advance politically his own type of Christian philosophy, that of the fascist Christian Nationalist(CN) movement supported by the Hungarian dictator Orban and promoted by the far right organization CPAC
But Pope Bob was completely aware of the PR stunt Vance was pulling, knowing full well of the CN policy of white supremacy and crimes against humanity The Pope had little time for the couch lover and Pope killer essentially giving him a fleeting glance while chatting it up with others in attendance of his inauguration Mass
Vance is a thirsty power mongering politician backed by billionaires who wants to carry the banner of the CN movement and “use the Pope” as a propaganda tool Pope Bob wasn’t having it
How does this ruling size up with news that just dropped allowing Trump administration the power to revoke the protected status of thousands of Venezuelans to have them deported putting them at risk of their lives? Please help make sense of this Supreme Court decision.
it's pretty much unrelated. these are people subject to deportation as to whom Court has said must have DP. others are all 350k residents who can't be deported b/c Biden Admin has given them temporary protected status, but that's something that can be taken away, as Noem did.
Those with TPI are scared shitless right now - passed all kinds of hurdles regards to background etc. They are in no way criminals but witnessing this administration isn’t concerned with anything other than meeting some arbitrary self proclaimed number to deport. And there are some 11 other countries on the list subject to same - including Afgjanistans who aided our military at risk of their own lives
- this is just another example of the Felon’s unrelenting retribution against anything and anyone that can be seen as connected to Biden and his administration. It’s cruelty for the sake of misinformation to feed his base.
Deport DjT and his crew of incompetent, cruel, bad barbies et al to El Salvador if they are so committed to no due process, overt criminality, ignoring courts, attempting to end American as we know it.
Harry my understanding is that Trump has immunity for the things that he does which are in his presidential scope that may go wrong or cause harm. What about the things he is doing that are causing harm which are not and have never been with in the scope of his presidential authority like the issue with the Institute for Peace and the Library of Congress. Seems clear that if not in his scope NO IMMUNITY!,, LOCK HIM UP.
The dissent is notable for its willingness to say absolutely anything. There is little factual evidence, the dissent asserts, that this matter is all that urgent. The dissent asserts this astonishing conclusion despite the majority's careful, minute-by-minute description of the ticking clock and the events on the ground, and despite the majority's rather sharply pointing out that the government had promised that the detainees "would not be removed today," and had then added "tomorrow begins at 12:01 a.m." Adding stupidity to cruelty, the dissent asserts that the fact that the government had sent detainees to a prison beyond the seas just a few weeks ago was. irrelevant. Just because the government did this a few weeks ago, the dissent says, is absolutely no reason to think they will do it again; therefore the matter is not urgent. The dissent's reasoning isn't so much reasoning as salivating.
So does this include the Louisiana Detention Center? Why didn't they make a national injunction? Why did they send this back to the circuit court instead of actually ruling on the merits of the case? It is hard to appreciate what they did, when it is unclear that it will have any impact on the Trump regime or those already in El Salvador or help those currently in detention. The focus on Kilmar Abrego-Garcia, is also misguided. The message is bring him back, rather than shut this down.
Exactly it’s time to remove the entire regime! Everyone Mike Johnson clarence thomas all the cabinet djt chose his judges republicans… All of them to El Salvador or Alcatraz but don’t forget Elon!!!
I have the same question as MJoT — “How does this ruling size up with news that just dropped allowing Trump administration the power to revoke the protected status of thousands of Venezuelans to have them deported putting them at risk of their lives? Please help make sense of this Supreme Court decision.”
So how do we fit the new ruling on Temporary Protected Status into this? Some "national security" arguments are more equal than others? DOJ actually argued that some of the Venezuelans were Tren de Aragua and therefore dangerous--with (checks note) as far as I can tell with no more evidence here than in AARP.,
And will those who have lost TPS have any due process rights before they are loaded on a plane to somewhere? Libya (to join all the Palestinians). Rwanda?
The 350k were declared a protected class by President Biden, not Congress. Thus, this is a status Trump can revoke. They then become liable for deportation proceedings as in the regular course of such proceedings.
However, irrespective of government claims that some "are TdA members", the Court has ruled that all have the same right to due process.
What constitutes "due process" is still somewhat up in the air at the moment and it's not farfetched to wager that the government will press the boundaries relentlessly until reined in by the Court.
As I understand it, the statute lets the dept of homeland security decide this protected status after making certain findings. And then the extensions are done by regulation. Different from “protected class” in anti discrimination statutes
My question is how much control does Mr Sauer exert over the conduct of Miller, Bondi, and Noem? Miller has already basically given his personal FU to the Court re Abrego-Garcia, who remains a prisoner in El Salvador.
“The highly able Solicitor General D. John Sauer repeatedly told the Supreme Court that "this Court's decisions constitute controlling precedent throughout the nation," and promised that it will remain this Administration's "categorical practice" always to respect both "the precedents and the judgments of the Supreme Court" without any "hedging at all."”
I listened to the “birthright citizenship” hearings and this same guy could not guarantee to Justice Barrett that the administration would abide by the Court’s decisions. I believe he said they “generally would” but would not guarantee it. Sorry Mr. Bernstein, that guy is slime.
The thing that Trump and his satraps have forgotten--or never thought about--is that their arguments would take away the judges' and justices' jobs. There are always people who will be happy to have life tenure in a job that involves no work, but serious folks want to believe that they have something real to do. They will resist, strongly, attempts to toss them to the wayside.

In addition to winning NCAA basketball championships, Villanova educated a Pope.
FWIW: Neither I nor my wife are Catholics.

Thanks Harry. Excellent twofer post. Please continue to shine sunlight on the unconstitutional actions by the Trump Administration.

Yes. I don’t understand.

Thank you for amplifying those details. Concur that, say, "group" avoids the potential confusion of "class".

The rule of law only works when people obey it. This assumes a respect for the decisions of the courts.
“The highly able Solicitor General D. Good to learn that the U.S. SUPREME COURT decided to uphold our rights to due process protections -for now!
Trump is apparently raging against the SUPREME COURT on his “Truth” Social platform!
Legal Question: Trump incited his MAGA followers to attack the U.S. CAPITOL on January 6, 2021, and many policemen died!
What preemptive powers does the U.S. SUPREME COURT have to prevent such violence again
Can the COURT issue a “cease and desist” order against such threats to incite violence based on the precedent of January 6th?
Can the COURT issue a criminal “contempt of court” order if Trump persists in raging on Truth Social against the COURT’s family members?
TRUMP’S BEHAVIOR INTENDS TO THREATEN THE COURT INTO SUBMISSION!
Let’s all hope that the COURT does NOT allow TRUMP’s behavior to continue!
More importantly , let’s hope the COURT does NOT BACK DOWN!
The thing that Trump and his satraps have forgotten--or never thought about--is that their arguments would take away the judges' and justices' jobs. There are always people who will be happy to have life tenure in a job that involves no work, but serious folks want to believe that they have something real to do. Maybe Mr. T can go pick up the deportees in his shiny new Qatar jet.
