As we wave goodbye to Jack Smith, we also seem to be waving goodbye to the Rule of Law. A definition of irony—Jack Smith observes rules & regulations; Republican president and his Supreme Court ignores same when inconvenient.

Thank you so much, Harry, for taking the considerable time to craft this explanation. Through this awful ordeal of Trump doing everything he can to fight justice, you and others like you have taken so much time out of your days--and nights--to make it certain we understand what's been going on. Blerss you!

I appreciate this explanation and review of the filing. However, I'm still flabbergasted and sickened by the fact that he is soon to be President again. I fear the worst is yet to come. It's ludicrous that he cannot be stopped - and everyone seems fine with handing him the keys.

I agree with you, Abby! In this great country of ours we have a criminal elected president and no one was able to stop him. Perhaps there are too many flaws in our justice system to deal with someone as pathetic as Trump.

He's also extremely dangerous. I feel panicky when I think about the future.

I remember when Members of the Bar in the US were recruited by emerging countries to

help them write their penal code and justice system, based on the continuing success of OUR

laws. Both our penal system and out entire justice system have become an international joke!

Venal lawyers, Judges, and Legislators have all contributed to this nightmare!

On the flip-side, Nazi’s admired our laws from Jim Crow times :-/

The four engraved words above the columns of the Supreme Court building are: ‘Equal Justice Under Law’

Don’t they now need to add a few more words?

‘Except for the president’.

Except for a maga president

I was thinking of including that qualifier. I wish smokin Joe would test that theory. In the next 7 days. Or at least box up some incriminating Trump classified docs.

The visual events of J6 should be/have been enough to disqualify 45 from even seeking 47. On Monday he ascends the throne, king of a nation that has voted its support of J6. J6 is no longer about the great pumpkin. It is about the transfer of power on Monday, Jan 20 2025 and what that says about the nation that re-elected him.

Actually, as in 2016, the Electoral College, that enslavement affirming article of the Constitution is what elected the convict president. Article II, Section 1, Clause 3. Both Sec Clinton and VP Harris won the popular vote. In any other country, they both would have been sworn in as President.

While Hilary clearly won the popular vote- it appears Harris did not. This from the Cin Enquirer on Nov 25th

As of 7:01 a.m. ET on Nov. 25, Trump has 76,838,984 popular votes and Harris has 74,327,659. Trump leads Harris by approximately 2.5 million votes.

You're correct. But.......he still did not win the majority of the US voters. He is still a minority president. In more ways than one.

Trump's popular vote margin Republican +1.5%

They both had less than 50% of vote. And Trump's margin is the smallest in a quarter century.

Sorry to disagree, but VP Harris did not win the popular vote either.

Haven’t you heard the new rules? Just declare you won and keep on saying it and that’s all you have to do. It helps if you have a Fox News to let you say it in front of a huge audience.

Unfortunately, Harris did not win the popular vote.

Harry thank you for breaking down the Smith report for all to understand! The bottom line is an insurrectionist rapist will be President. Also half of Congress were conspirators and still have their jobs and were not held accountable!!

I think they were in cahoots beginning with the results of the election. I had phoned the 147 Republican Representatives who had refused to acknowledge that Joe Biden had won the election, their staffers all had a similar convoluted answer/non-answer about what it would take for their Rep to change their opinion.

Yup!!! About half of Congress, and at least 1/3 of SCOTUS need to be Impeached, Convicted, and Removed, and disqualified, but Im not sure the Dems have the gumption, and they never had the numbers

One question that continues to bother me is why Mike Pence never sued Trump for attempted murder. It was Trump who urged the crowd to chant "Hang Mike Pence" by castigating him for not allowing Electoral College ballots from some states. And, as noted, Trump said, "So what?" about the potential mortal danger Pence was in.

Pence has no spine. That’s why. Karen Pence, on the other hand, drew a line in the sand at Carter’s funeral. I will never understand why people are still in thrall to this vile felon and rapist.

For the same reason he kept kissing his ass. He was enthralled with "The Great Manipulator" the purveyor of lies, and hes become tribal. Plus, hes scared of him. Better to be up his ass than under his shoe.

I also found fascinating Jack Smith's account of the pretzel arguments employed by SCOTUS in the immunity judgement. He eviscerated what they did without overtly criticising them in any way they could deem improper. The fact that Merrick Garland at one end, and SCOTUS at the other, prevented this prosecution from going forward is a travesty of justice.

Alex, your last sentence is spot on.

I made sure to download the report as I started reading this morning lest it somehow disappears on 1/20. Thank you Harry

I did too. Now Garland needs to withdraw the charges against Walt Nauta and Carlos De Oliveria in the documents case - these two defendants are inconsequential. What is consequential is releasing Volume 2 for the sake of posterity.

Thank you for dissecting Jack Smith’s report. It is important that the report be preserved for an accurate account of weeks leading up to and including January 6. Smith’s legal case corroborated much of the Select Committee on January 6 findings. I am saddened that the excellent, hard work of Smith and his crew didn’t lead to the outcome many of us were hoping for.

In my career in the federal courts, I learned that not just members of the bar but even federal judges took part in helping other countries across the world set up judicial systems to mirror, in various ways and to various extents (considering extant constitutions) our own judicial systems. In the last several years, I have wondered how that work has been viewed by those young countries in retrospect as they see the corruption and downright ignorance in our own country since 2016. This is one of the weakest moments in our history and one that will not be forgotten. If the United States survives the next four years — and I am not at all convinced it will — history will not be kind to the supporters of the insane and naked great pumpkin.

Reading this, intermittently watching Pete Hegseth before the Senate, it appears to me that all well reasoned logic is on the blue side, and inevitably ignored by the red. I suspect this report, like the Mueller Report, will rest unread.
