MSM seems to be so stubbornly stupid and filled with fear and greed that they miss the viewer's responses. We do not have to watch. The numbers dropping are similar to folks walking from organzed religion. We have other options. Good ones.

Let’s cancel our Amazon accounts , and that’s just for starters. No more Teslas either. I don’t care how good they are for the environment.

And let’s cancel the Los Angeles Times as well. 😎

There are many other electric cars. Many are rated much more highly than the South African's car brand, according to Consumer Reports and other trusted sources.

It’s time for the woke Dems to start letting the adults take charge of our party.

I’m a union construction worker and have supported the Democratic Party, especially locally with a better part of 35 years.

The left has taken over and it’s high time that we take it back.

This article from the MSN website it’s a good place to start.

Elissa Slotkin, who just won a Senate race in Michigan, said in a meeting of fellow Democrats. “Identity politics did not work electorally, and it failed miserably strategically,” Rahm Emanuel told Politico. “Some Democrats are finally waking up,” the New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd wrote, “and realizing that woke is broke.”

Wow. The Democratic is central right, not leftist. If is were true leftist, there would be much more empohasis upon working class issues. And workers issues are Progressive. Out politics in this country have moved so far right that it's insane.

I keep wondering why the Leftist Dems allowed President Trump to grab so many union workers from what used to be the stalwart of the Dems coalition.

When the Teamsters refused to endorse Joe in 2024 it was a clear sign that the Left was concerned more about the Billionaire oligarchs from Silicon Valley then its rank and file union workers, particularly the construction industry, which I’ve been a part of for over 33 years.

The local construction chapter that I’ve been a member for decades, still supported a lot of of the local Democratic candidates, but refused to endorse Joe in 2024, as well as Camila after she replaced, Joe as the candidate for president.

All the warning signs for Camila were flashing bright red and yet no one in the party that I am aware of were concerned about Lowe’s rank-and-file Union members throughout the country.

You can get as angry as you want 24/7 but it was a terrible decision to just ignore in the final months of the Camila campaign.

It’s time for the adults to wrestle the party back to the center and kick the small, but very very LOUD members to the back of the party.

When I think about the TYT and her name escapes me at the moment as she openly criticized the small minority in the party who are obsessed with DEI it’s very possible that the party will be relegated to the political wilderness as they say.

When the minority was in the Democratic Party scream, racism & misogyny over and over again as it’s the only one trick pony argument that the left has.

You have a wonderful Xmas Selfeirion and a great new year to you and your family.😇😇

As President Reagan used to say when your opponent is digging a hole for himself, do not interfere and right now they are just using a bigger shovel.

Isn’t that just the way of it now? Everyone else who commits espionage, bank fraud, rape, insurrection, treason, election fraud, etc. would be in prison for life. But when Donald Trump does it, he gets away with it. Same deal here. ABC would’ve never settled with anyone for $15 million and/or issued an apology. But with Trump, they settled and lost any credibility they had left. I hope ABC make a deal with Trump to be bailed out because between ABC, CNN, MSNBC and others who choose to sell out and normalize Trump‘s criminal behavior, good fucking riddance! Also, when has Trump ever issued an apology?

ya gotta wonder what the hell goes on behind the scenes that these idiots are afraid of him.

👍🏼 And when did "defamation" become something they can toggle on and off to suit their own purposes? Fine if Elmo calls someone a "pedo guy" - hey, can't you take a joke, he didn't mean actual pedophile, it's just an "expression" - and he can call Kamala Harris the C-word, no problem there, the Free Speech Absolutist is just exercising his rights. How do we get these spoiled rotten messy toddlers out of our national sandbox and into time-out where they belong?

I was surprised myself with how many times sunny I had to read statements on the view in order to voidany lawsuits. Maybe that guy that was the old Twitter owner can buy ABC and then eliminate any kind of political speech that he didn’t like?

I think Walt Disney has outlived its usefulness. I for one I’m looking forward to the new movie Snow White, and the seven dwarfs. I don’t understand why they keep postponing the movie.

It’s going on three years now, either finish the movie or pull it.

I have a great Christmas, Valerie and a better new year 😎

This is so much more frightening than any of his grossly unqualified nominees for various positions. That ABC would capitulate before depositions have even started is nauseating. A $15M donation to his “library”! That’s almost laughable. The Orange turd is functionally illiterate! There will never be a library. At most there might be some tacky shrine to his greatness. That money went straight into the grifter’s pocket.

Harry: ABC's parent company isn't Sony. It's the Nicest Police State on Earth, aka Mauschwitz to those of us who have spent time on The Nicest Studio Lot on Earth, aka the Walt Disney Company.

That decision was not made by ABC. It was made across the lot on the sixth floor of the Walt Disney Building, in the office of CEO Bob Iger.

For anyone who wants to "send a message" about this, send it in language those Disney scum will understand: stop watching Star Bores moves and the rest of the Disneyfied comic book crap they make; no more visits to Disneyland and Disney World;cancel the Disney-plus subscription. Tank their stock worse than it already is.

UPDATE: Reading the whole article, I can say Harry has made the most complete explanation of how and why this is so bad and so dangerous. Really excellent work, Mr. Litman!

Thank you for this. It’s upsetting that some of the largest and best-funded media corporations are both in the best position to defend themselves (and the media in general) and the first to cave. Maybe this points to a major weakness in the media landscape, which echoes the income inequality crisis in this country. Evidently these particular media companies don’t really care that that are in a position of public trust, because their primary concern is making as much money as possible.

Thank you, Harry Litman, for warning us about the ridiculous ABC settlement - it really doesn't bode well for the American people if the MSM is going to let the orange liar continue to lie without consequence....

This is ransom to prevent against further actions by trump in the future towards ABC and the parent company Disney. But trump his like a mafia don, and will not be satisfied with this. They have given him more power to this in the future to them and other media companies. He will not be sated with a mere 15M tribute - he will demand ...and get more. And like the merchants in GodFather 1-3, Disney will not have bought protection, merely time until the next and bigger demand.

Meanwhile in a parallel world the silence of the Dems echos in my ears like canon blast. They are feckless and cowards, unable or unwilling to fight back.

We are Hungry, we are Turkey, we are Russia, we are N Korea now, certainly not the constitutional republic of America that I was born into over 70 years ago, We are a shithole nation now. A two bit country with a two bid dictator to be at its helm.We have mad leader who cannot be stopped because those around him who could have did not and instead enabled him

Just this morning listening to Bloomberg radio I heard trumps press conference with a world leader - speaking as if he were already president.

Where is Biden? Why no pressers while he still has a platform?

This is insanity.

Points well taken, thus we do need an alternative media system, as per your closing paragraph. But it is BEYOND time to acknowledge that Substack is by far not a sustainable alternative. Most readers of news can simply not afford to subscribe to multiple Substack accounts as a means to get robust news and opinions. And the more that Substack is offered by its writers as a solution to the deterioration (and cowardice) of the MSM (as part of multi-billion$ corporations), the more this fact of its unsustainability is obscured, to the real detriment of developing a better media/ information solution.

Expand full comment

Agree. News needs to be available to everyone, not just those who can afford it. I'm personally not willing to pay for everyone I follow here & on podcasts. Those $6-$10/month feed add up. If we just make news available to those willing to pay for it, we're in exactly the same place that cost us this election- the high versus low information voters.

Expand full comment

I subscribed but haven't upgraded to paid and I'm receiving Harry's substack emails.

Expand full comment

Exactly. But all these Substack writers are somehow overlooking exactly what you wrote. We will never reach a new media state until the brilliant Substack writers acknowledge that Substack is not the solution. Sadly, I have seen this from virtually no one, with the possible exception of Josh Marshall (talkingpointsmemo.com) perhaps because he is not on Substack. I believe that we the readers need to be more vocal about not accepting Substack, with its unsustainable model, as the solution.

Expand full comment

Unfortunately some form of mainstream media is needed to reach the masses. If not, there will only be Fox News.

Expand full comment

I wonder if there's a business model in several Substack authors/reporters joining forces to offer a broader but more affordable subscription. One might be a specialist in domestic politics, one in international news, one in LA city government, etc. The mashup of areas of expertise would approximate the breadth offered in a newspaper...without pictures or other niceties and perhaps could be offered a rate more comparable to a newspaper. Just thinking out loud...

I subscribe to the Bulwark which has multiple writers and podcasts for $100/yr as a base. I also pay for subscriptions for some single writers but I am retired and have realized that I will not be able to maintain all of them. I have not yet seen any others like the Bulwark or as you describe but would like to see that.

It's all we've got for now. The bigger the publication, the more sensitive it is to pressure. Follow the money. And the little papers, like what I worked for, are sensitive to pressure as well. What this will take is several billionaires to start up newspapers/social media pages/cable channels and the left just doesn't have enough of them who are willing to do that. If any. It's the ruthless magarabid billionaires who are spending the money for media, including Russian oligarchs. So keep subscribing to Substacks and hope that more solutions come along. And you don't have to pay for them all (sorry, Substack writers). I pay for a handful of them and just hope the rest don't need to eat much.
