This entire situation in Texas sickens me.

Collier is a hero for not signing. Amazing to think she was the only one. WTF. For anyone on the fence about standing up to whatever injustice comes your way, think of her and stand your ground. Don't cave.

5-6 others finally did the same and joined her (yesterday? the day before??) after tearing up their "permission" slips..... But COLLIER was the most courageous!!

Michelle's avatar

oh good to know! thank you :) I'd heard they'd all torn up their slips so the net effect is a good one!

Leadership.

It’s what’s been lacking. When it shows up like this, wish it well and shower it with praises.

I would call the Austin PD and tell them I have been kidnapped. "Please send someone."

MM Harris's avatar

THAT would be interesting!

One quibble. It has become commonplace to refer to what the Dems did as fleeing the state but the didn't flee, they left. An honorable act.

Cheeto Using Taxpayer $$ To Go After Democrats

And what do his Nazi counterparts in Congress say? Crickets

Monica McIver, AfroAmerican arges in November of this year Of course this costs McIver out of pocket attorney fees while the DOJ has an infiCongresswoman from New Jersey, was doing her legal job of inspecting an ICE Detention Center in Newark and was arrested Now an illegally placed Cheeto lawyer, Alina Habba a parking garage lawyer, has Bondi’s blessing to prosecute McIver on made up chnite amount of resources to prosecute

Who’s going to be next? Talkshow hosts, news media like Lawrence O’Donnell, Rachel Maddow, maybe YOU Cheeto and his Nazi allies need to be thrown out of office in the 2026 midterms Protest Donate and talk to neighbors, friends, relatives to protect the vote because they’re coming after registered voters to disenfranchise swaths of the electorate to rig the midterms The Nazis will do everything they can to subvert the election to stay in power

Sue the unholy threesome..burrows, paxton & abbott

The GOP Clown Show Continues 🤡🤡🤡

Joanne Steacie's avatar

That's what I think too, Julie. They are low life, criminal, stupid bullies. Not anything they are doing is honorable or what an elected representative was sworn to do. Abbott kissingTrump’s ass looks pathetic and desperate. To cheat and steal an election is also desperation. Them thinking they are justified in holding another human being hostage to force her compliance makes me sick as it should make many sick.

I’m hoping this turns out to awaken the Texas electorate.. similar to Elon trying to buy a judgeship earlier this year.

Is this what independent TEXANS really want????

Do ya’ll want to give your ELECTEDS this much power over the citizens?????

That they can just decide to just hold your representative against her will?

Isn’t that called kidnapping??

V Wilson's avatar

You mention the futility of having DOJ do the right thing. Why hasn't Bondi been at least reprimanded or even disbarred for her egregious behavior? How does that process get initiated?

Gerri Horka's avatar

Thank you Representative Collier for taking a stand against the oh-so-wrong machinations of Representative Burrows….YOU are a HERO.

She must lawyer up, and push it as far as humanly possible! $100M per charge, sounds about right. And file *personal* charges, as many as possible. One of the best law firms should take it on consignment. #Politics

Yes, to the legal consequences in "normal" times, but I'm not sure the courts will protect her now. Especially not in Texas. Small correction, in 2003, the Texas Dems fled the state to Oklahoma, not New Mexico. I was a law student at the time with experience in campaign finance law, and was there in Oklahoma with the Chair of the Dallas County Democratic Party and the state legislators at the time. It was quite an experience!

Don't Mess with Texas. It's already a mess!

This entire country sickens me. That there could be so many hate-filled, illiterate thugs in this country who support a monster who rapes 13 year old girls, worships the heathen murderer Putin and is destroying the norms under our precious constitution is simply undigestible.

But wait there's more bad news about Texas special session. From a liberal group called 'Faithful America''

"There is plenty of alarming news from the Texas Legislature's special session right now. Yet one remains somewhat hidden and is not getting picked up by the press -- one that is a massive threat to religious freedom as we know it. The Texas Legislature added language to an abortion bill (SB7) that would exempt any religious freedom defense in any court of law if it is regarding abortion.

What does this mean? Texas seeks to eliminate the Religious Freedom Restoration Act -- the U.S. federal law that prohibits the government from substantially burdening a person's exercise of religion -- as a potential legal defense if someone accuses a faith community OR an individual of participating in abortion related activities.

SB7 is a very slippery slope, Aurora. Churches and individuals may face harassment from future lawsuits simply because the claimant doesn't like or agree with what the defendant believes, says, or does. If Texas can do away with religious freedom protections for abortion, they can do away with protection regarding school prayer, DEI practices, LGBTQ rights, immigration assistance, and more. People of faith will have no legal defense available as they attempt to honor and practice their faith and to love their neighbors.

We cannot let Texas set a precedent that the Religious Freedom Restoration Act is only relevant for issues that those in power deem appropriate."

Sounds like they are jumping the gun in implementing that Christian Nationalism cult stuff in P2025....
