death by a thousand “courts”

BEpiper's avatar

You can’t help but be proud of more and more of these judges and Judge Quraishi in particular.

Kathy Hughes's avatar

Judge Quraishi is correct to be angry about this. The DOJ is thumbing its nose at the courts.

BEpiper's avatar

Yes, of course. Did you think my comment said the opposite?

Kathy Hughes's avatar

Actually no. I agree with you. It’s just infuriating to see Bondi act exclusively in Trump’s interests. Judge Quraishi gave that dingbat what he deserved. I’d also say the judges in the District of NJ also spared us the Incompetence of Alina Habba as the U.S. Attorney for NJ. I:am not crazt about Chris Christie, but at least he was competent as the U.S. Attorney for NJ. Jared Kushner hates Christie for sending his daddy Charles Kushner to jail over Charles Kushner’s blackmail scheme. Unfortunately, now Kushner is Ambassador to France since Trump pardoned him.

Thanks, Kathy!

Also Judge Boasberg, and many others, deserve the gratitude of our nation.

WOULD SOMEONE PLEASE! PLEASE RELEASE THE EPSTEIN FILES AND READ THE NAMES OUT LOUD! PLEASE!

Lois Henry's avatar

Were Epstein files part of the stolen classified documents Trump had in the Mar-a-Lago bathroom?

How can we learn by this and make sure the DOJ is independent in the future. We the people pay for these individuals and they should report to , "we the people"

As an attorney who is involved daily on the civil side opposed by the DoJ, it is very clear that this is an entirely different DoJ as a federal agency than has existed proudly for at least the last fifty years in my experience! Trump has destroyed its fair dealing and competence. He has transformed an independent organization dealing fairly with “justice” issues both criminally and civilly into a crass political agent pursuing the political and judgmental interests of one man. It will take us many years to restore its reputation if ever that is dependent on our winning BOTH the Senate as well as the House or else our Democracy is over the day after the election is decided! Please go to www.TurnUp.US and contribute generously to this most effective nonpartisan organization which registers and turns out hundreds of thousands of young voters concentrated only in “truly competitive” states and congressional districts!

I can't help but wonder how much of our tax dollars have been squandered by Trump's "revenge" cases, so many of which have been lost, or haven't made it past the grand jury. Prior to this term I'd never heard of a president ordering the DoJ to investigate, or simply to file charges against people for whom he holds a grudge. The time spent by DoJ's lawyers, paralegals, secretaries, and other support staff, as well as the time spent by judges and their supporting staff members, not to mention court costs and ancillary fees, are not insignificant. And thank you for the mention of TurnUp.US. It turns out I live in one of those "truly competitive" districts!

trump has cost us - the taxpayers - BILLIONS of dollars in just the past YEAR.

3 more years to go... ha! we will be completely, financially bankrupt before that.

We are already MORALLY BANKRUPT.

Jacobs-Meadway Roberta's avatar

Even if there were not costs incurred by taxpayers as the DOJ files frivolous claims and motions and appeals, the partisan shenanigans not only disgrace the DOJ but clog up the federal courts, forcing judges to spend time dealing with the obstructions that could be spent processing actual serious criminal and civil cases.

I don't see how anyone could attribute even a vague hint of credibility to the DOJ after its blatant refusal to do its job following the insurrection, it's obvious derelictions of duty, dazzling incompetence, and flagrantly criminal efforts to protect the rich from justice by persecuting everyone else.

As if the department of "justice" failure to do its job following the insurrection wasn't enough, the department of "justice" completely destroyed its final shred of credibility by going aggressively after Luigi Mangione for doing the DOJ's job, providing clear proof that the department of "justice" does not serve the law.

Keep it up. We, the people, need you!

The DOJ was where I first began working upon graduation from HS. I didn't want to go to college straight from HS so instead I went into "Civil Service" and became a stenographer/typist, just as my mom had when she began her careers. The very first office I started out in was with "The Executive Office for US Attorneys" which is kind of the overseer at DOJ of each state's attorneys generals and their assistant attorneys generals. It's kind of sad and disgusting at the same time to see what a friggen mess that Scam Blondi and 𝐓я☭𝐦𝐩 have made of the DOJ in this second term. I've already also seen a lot of the broken legal systems in NC that are just a symptom of the entire Justice System's brokenness.

Is there any coming back from this once the regime is out of power?

They certainly ARE NOT earning their paychecks!

On one hand, Judge Quraishi is doing what he needs to do to protect the interest of NJ citizens and broadly US citizens. But what if the incompetence displayed by the DOJ is intentional? What if they're deliberately trying to undermine the DOJ's reputation in order to abolish this branch of government entirely? It's on brand for the Trump administration to break a process, proclaim it's someone else's fault, then proceed to introduce draconian/undemocratic reforms. Is what's happening in NJ any different? If nothing else, it benefits anyone aligned with Trump who is either under investigation, indicted or on trial. In the particular case you referenced, do you know if the defendant getting a plea deal is connected to Epstein or Ghislaine Maxwell?

Mind you, I think is a great story, but as fan of your work, I was hoping you would connect the dots based the Trump DOJ's pattern of behavior or simply dispel it as monumental incompetence.

YES. It’s not working by design. “ deconstruction of the administrative state is what Bannon called it

The truth has to be told.

As to how to remedy this, I don't know how it's done but I guess Preet Bahara is the one to ask. Or Figliuzzi.
